Cinema Politica is hiring a Network Coordinator!

The Cinema Politica Network is a worldwide non-profit network of community and campus locals devoted to the exhibition of independent political film and video made by Canadian and international artists working mostly in the documentary genre. 

Cinema Politica (CP) is seeking to hire a part-time Network Coordinator who will recruit and support the work of Cinema Politica local chapters (currently around 100), coordinate network-wide events, campaigns and activities, and assist with related day-to-day operations. The Network Coordinator will work closely with the CP Executive Director and will be responsible for select administrative tasks in addition to their primary duties. We are interested in applicants who have a specific interest in membership development, community outreach, activism, media arts, and/or documentary. This position is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of an applicable degree or diploma programme who is interested in gaining experience at a small but dedicated media arts organization committed to creativity, intersectionality, community and social justice.

This is a part-time contract position with a possibility of renewal. Remuneration is commensurate to experience and qualifications. The selected candidate will start work in November 2015 at our Montreal (Quebec) office. Read more below.

Responsibilities

Membership Development
• Act as a primary contact for local organizers in the CP Network and respond to local queries in a timely fashion
• Research and recruit new CP local organizers in diverse communities and universities in Canada and abroad
• Initiate local members, track and ensure fulfillment of membership agreements
• Support new and existing local chapters with their day-to-day operation, programming and event organization
• Assist individual locals with event organizing, outreach and programming, and encourage resource sharing
• Optimize and maintain the CP Network membership database
• Manage membership invoices and receipts
• Disseminate films, promotional and interpretive materials to local chapters, handle shipping
• Gather, track and interpret results from Annual Network Questionnaire and prepare annual reports

Special Projects, Outreach and Communication
• Encourage and facilitate local participation in special projects and campaigns
• Liaise with locals and community organizations interested in working together
• Track special film requests and liaise with programmers to ensure their fulfillment
• Connect local members with community and media arts partners and organizations, and act as a liaison when necessary
• Maintain and update community partner database
• Assist with the creation of local pages on the CP website
• Facilitate creation of blog content by member locals
• Gather and record interpretive and promotional materials created by local members for online archive
• Liaise with local members and communication staff with regards to promotional activities and social media outreach

General
• Provide occasional administrative assistance to the CP Executive Director
• Assist with data collection, research and grant writing
• Maintain internal calendar of events and deadlines
• Occasionally assist with general office upkeep
• Act as a liaison between CP locals and staff
• Work closely with the CP team to complete time-sensitive tasks

Qualifications
• A degree in Media, Film and/or Communication, Community/Organizational Development, Social work, or relevant work/volunteer experience
• Excellent language skills in both English and French
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Strong knowledge of the Internet and proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Strong project management and organizational skills, and a talent for multi-tasking
• Familiarity with Cinema Politica and its activities
• Good understanding of the non-profit and media arts sectors
• Ability to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work well autonomously as well as in a collaborative environment

Assets
• Interest and knowledge in documentary, and social justice issues and activism
• Good knowledge of activist networks, student/labour unions and/or community organizations
• Experience with managing databases
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule
