Launched in 2012, Cinema Politica has teamed up with professional translators and language students to offer French and English versions of single-language films and videos, facilitating greater exposure of and access to art works made in one of Canada’s two official languages.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

In our effort to bridge the “two solitudes” divide, at least in select documentary film and video, CP each year works with translators to create English subtitled versions of French works and French subtitled versions of English works.

In this way we hope to expand the audiences for these important works as well as allow non-billingual audiences a chance to experience film and video made otherwise inaccessible because of language constraints.

COMPLETED VERSIONS

We recently completed subtitles for PORTRAIT OF RESISTANCE: THE ART AND ACTIVISM OF CAROLE CONDÉ AND KARL BEVERIDGE by Roz Owen and Jim Miller, RED SQUARE ON A BLACK BOARD by Santiago Bertolino and Hugo Samson, RETURN TO HOMS by Talal Derki, RUPTURE by Groupe d’action en cinéma EpopéeTHE SECRET TRIAL 5 by Amar Wala, VESSEL by Diana Whitten, GRANNY POWER by Magnus Isacsson, MIGRANT DREAMS by Min Sook Lee, TUNNIIT: RETRACING THE LINES OF INUIT TATTOOS by Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, COLONIZATION ROAD by Michelle St-John, the DOCUMENTARY FUTURISM PROGRAM by multiple directors, and ôtênaw by Connor McNally.
