about cinema politica Goldsmiths

Cinema Politica Goldsmiths looks forward to promoting an informal cross-pollination of ideas and analyses on urgent social justice, environmental, economic, gender issues between academic departments and the wider New Cross community. We want all departments to be involved in the programming, promoting, viewing and discussing of the films, and collectively provide information on social justice organizations, solidarity groups to join, and resources from which to do further academic research. We want to provide a forum for discussion encouraging students to engage, beyond the film projection, in critical debates with the filmmakers (in person or via skype), with a knowledgeable panel, and most importantly with each other.

We hope to make the cinema bicycle-powered by next fall. Sitting watching films is passive and after a day of sitting in classrooms and libraries doing some cycling is healthy, fun and will raise awareness about sustainable energy and climate justice. The aim of Cinema Politica is to get people actively involved beyond the film projection, so why not start by getting people physically active during the film.
