To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of the October 29, 1929 stock market crash, Cinema Politica Victoria presents a special screening of _The Grapes of Wrath_. Following the screening of John Ford's classic 1940 adaptation, we will discuss the film and hear two songs from the Great Depression performed by a local trio. Come join us to create some vital historical perspective on economic "downturns"!

The film version of _The Grapes of Wrath_ follows the migration of the Joad family across the United States along Highway 66 after the family farm in Oklahoma has been foreclosed during the dustbowl of the thirties. The family suffers terrible trials along the way and becomes itinerant labour in an unforgiving time. These experiences politicize the more resistant members of the family, who attempt to maintain their family's human dignity.
