Back the Tap Screening Tour & Campaign

March 01, 2013 - March 31, 2013

Bottled water is simultaneously illogical and absurd - the creation of bottled water uses up precious resources, results in the pollution of water and privatizes the most free thing on earth, something that should always be pure, healthy and accessible: H20. In the spring of 2013 Cinema Politica is teaming up with the Coalition for Bottled Water Free Communities to end the sale and consumption of this ridiculous fad and restore our waterways to health.

Sex Labour Smut Film and Video Festival

October 16, 2009 - October 19, 2009

Between Friday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Oct.19, 2010, Cinema Politica hosted a film and video festival dedicated to the topic of sex, sexuality and sexwork. Nine programs of experimental/non-fiction works were selected and screened, along with post-projection discussions with artists, activists and sexworkers, at the J.A. de Sève Cinema, at Concordia University. The focus was on "two of today's most politicized, yet under-screened topics: sexwork and pornography. Connecting and contextualizing bodies, genders, identities, desires and difference, this anti-sexist, anti-phobic festival confronts morality and obscenity with performance, pleasure, and politics."

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti that killed hundreds of thousands and left millions homeless, Cinema Politica locals throughout January and February, 2010, held fundraiser screenings of the excellent film Aristide and Endless Revolution. In total, over $8,000 was raised, with all proceeds having gone to relief efforts for survivors of the earthquake.
