Five award-winning social-issue films now available to educational institutions in the US & Canada
Montreal — Tuesday, August 19. Cinema Politica, Canada’s leading non-profit distributor of political and socially-engaged documentary films, is proud to announce an exclusive partnership with Docuseek, a premier educational streaming platform. This collaboration marks a significant step in Cinema Politica’s educational distribution strategy, expanding its catalogue reach into the growing educational streaming market. Five celebrated films from the organization’s distribution catalogue are now available via Docuseek’s streaming platform for colleges, universities, schools, and institutional libraries across the United States and Canada.
The collection features five acclaimed titles:
- MIGRANT DREAMS — An unsettling exposé on the under-told story of migrant agricultural workers’ struggle against Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program. A Hot Docs Top Ten Audience Favourite.
- FINDING SALLY — A stirring investigation into the director’s own family history set against the 1974 Ethiopian Revolution, chronicling the tale of a diplomat’s daughter who disappeared to become a communist revolutionary rebel.
- FIRST DAUGHTER AND THE BLACK SNAKE — An incendiary chronicle of Ojibwe environmentalist Winona LaDuke’s community organizing against an Enbridge-lead pipeline development.
- UNCLE BERNARD — A witty and provocative interview with the late economist Bernard Maris, giving a frank and unvarnished “counter lesson in economics.
- 3000 NIGHTS — A devastating drama inspired by true events, following a Palestinian schoolteacher who gives birth in an Israeli prison and organizes a cellblock revolt.
Spanning stories of Ethiopian political history, migrant rights, Indigenous environmental activism, economic theory, and Palestinian resistance, this selection of films reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to bring bold, thought-provoking documentaries into classrooms and campuses.
“This collection perfectly embodies our mission to connect educators and students with meaningful, independent documentaries,” says Svetla Turnin, Executive Director at Cinema Politica. “We are proud to partner with Docuseek to bring these vital stories to classrooms and campuses.”
