Joseph Hillel


Joseph Hillel, scriptwriter and director, was born in Port-au-Prince and lives in Montreal. His most recent documentary, "Ayiti Toma, The Land of The Living", was screened in official competition at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM 2013), at the Paris Semaine du cinéma québécois, the African Diaspora International Film Festival of New York, the Montreal Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, the International Film Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico, the Boston Independant Film Festival and the Film Festival of Trieste, Italy. His previous documentary, "Karsh Is History", a film on photography, won Best Canadian Film at the 2010 International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA). His earlier documentary "Regular or Super, views on Mies van der Rohe" also won Best Canadian Film in 2005 at FIFA, Best Documentary Film at Docùpolis Festival (Barcelona) and Best Photography at the Roma Art Doc Fest 2005. As head of the production company Qu4tre par Quatre Films, he produced numerous shorts and full-feature films, including director Philippe Falardeau’s La Moitié gauche du frigo (The Left-Hand Side of the Fridge), André Turpin's Un crabe dans la tête (Soft Shell Man) and Michka Saäl’s documentary, Beckett's Prisoners.
