Director Ali Kazimi interviewed on Democracy Now

Ali Kazimi, director of CP films like CONTINUOUS JOURNEY, was recently interviewed by independent online journal Democracy Now about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s official apology for the Komagata Maru incident.

In 1914, Canada’s Continuous Journey policy prevented the nearly 400 Indian Sikhs aboard the Komagata Maru from entering the Vancouver harbour. Ali’s interview with Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman explores the legacy of the Komagata Maru by exploring how the Continuous Journey laws skilfully obscured their own racist motivations, and by discussing the Komagata Maru’s complicated presence in Canada’s cultural self-memory.

Thank you Ali for your thoughtful commentary and your provocative film!
