EUROMAIDAN AT CP CONU: A FEISTY SCREENING OF A PROVOCATIVE DOC

Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s screening of EUROMAIDAN: ROUGH CUT and who took part in the post-screening discussion. Thank you also to Oksana Karpovych and Marusya Bociurkiw for all of their efforts and insights in making this screening a provocative and memorable one.

With a film as emotionally and politically charged as this one, it is not difficult to understand how stories can vary and how tempers can flare. This screening and its discussion remind us that we must always be suspect of inadequate, misinforming, and incomplete journalism, the conflicting and partisan narratives of international diplomacy, and the political agendas of the filmmakers themselves.

Part of Cinema Politica’s mandate is to screen films that engage, inform, inspire, and provoke social change, and the post-screening discussions are an invaluable forum for the discussions that can lead to action towards that social change. However complicated, advanced, detailed, or volatile that conversation may be, Cinema Politica always wants to be a forum for it.

Films like EUROMAIDAN: ROUGH CUT, with their fragmentary narratives, activist agendas, and fierce insistence on screening truth to power, need to be screened publically and should be challenged with informed opinions and newfound curiosity alike. Please keep watching and talking.
