THE ALANIS OBOMSAWIN AWARD: EXTENDED CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

We have extended our call for nominations for The Alanis Obomsawin Award for Commitment to Community and Resistance to May 31, 2015 at midnight.

If you know of an inspiring independent political documentary filmmaker who has shown an unwavering commitment to community and resistance—both through their films and outside of their actual filmmaking practices—then we encourage you to take a moment to nominate them today.

ABOUT THE AWARD

The Alanis Obomsawin Award for Commitment to Community and Resistance was first inaugurated in 2011 by Cinema Politica and given to John Greyson. The creation of this award was inspired by Ms. Obomsawin's awe-inspiring and unstoppable dedication to social justice and political documentary.

The AOACCR award is meant to celebrate the efforts and talents of a filmmaker who has shown a commitment to community and resistance in documentary filmmaking through the ways in which they showcase the stories of underrepresented and/or marginalized communities engaged in struggle. The award also honours a filmmaker whose dedication to social justice is connected to, but goes beyond filmmaking practices and who actively participates in civil society, engages in collective action and uses film as a platform for progressive and radical social and political transformation.

The recipient of this award will be honoured at a special event organized later in the year. The award comes with a cash prize of $500 and a complementary trip to Montreal for the occasion.
