Trick-or-treat, occupy & review our films!

Awesome people! New film project! Review our films! Occupy! Prizes!

Happy Halloween political cinema lovers! Here at Cinema Politica Head Quarters we're excited to announce some eerie new developments and let you know about a few of our films that will help bring some context to the Occupy movement currently taking the world by storm. Read on to discover the spooky details below!

New CP Advisory Committee

This past summer CP put together a dynamic team of filmmakers, activists, educators and doc expertsto expand our committee of advisors who help guide our organization. Tracey Deer, Sean Farnel, John Greyson, Sylvia D. Hamilton, Peter Wintonick and B.H. Yael all bring unique and creative perspectives to the world of documentary media, dissemination, culture and politics. We're very excited at the prospect of benefiting from their individual and collective wisdom and we're sure the expanded committee will strengthen Cinema Politica as an international documentary screening network. You can read about the super six at the CP blog.

New Film Project: The Secret Trial 5

CP's Adopt-a-doc Program has added a second documentary project to our list. Adopt-a-doc is a program where we commit to supporting a documentary from the production stages through to the screening stage - along the way helping to raise money and attention for the project.

The Secret Trial 5 is a crowdfunded documentary in-progress that examines the human impact of Canada’s “war on terror”; specifically the use of security certificates, a tool that allows for indefinite detention, with no charges, and secret evidence. Over the last decade, 5 men have been held under security certificates in Canada. They spent between 2 and 7 years in prison each. None of them have been charged with a crime.

Find out more on the film's CP page and if you like what you see, please support this amazing and important project!

We Want YOU (to review our films)

It's time to hear from our audiences - we've just launched the new Audience Review feature on our website.

If you've seen a CP film and have been itching to write a review of the film that knocked our socks off, but had nowhere to post that review, look no further! Simply visit the CP site, search for the film you'd like to review, go to the film's page and you'll see the form to submit your review. We'll then review and publish it (provided it's civil and respectful). Once reviews are published you will also be able to go to the site and rate reviews.

To get started, why not review two films we know many of you have seen - Rip: A Remix Manifesto & The Yes Men Fix The World - and the first review we publish for each film will win that reviewer a CP DVD Pack compliments of CP!

Support Independent Documentary

Cinema Politica is the largest campus and community based documentary screening network in the world. Despite this awesomeness, we've done it on a shoestring and rely on donations from audience members to survive.

Please consider making a donation to Cinema Politica today - not only are you keeping our heat on in the winter, but you are supporting independent political docs & doc makers!
