For a third year in a row, CP’s Co-founder and Executive Director Svetla Turnin has curated a special five-day CP program during the Sofia International Film Festival (SIFF) at Goethe Institut in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Svetla hosted screenings of THE PRISON IN TWELVE LANDSCAPES, THE CROSSING, MIXED FEELINGS, SEED: THE UNTOLD STORY and PREGNANT IN ROMANIA, which were followed by Q&As with directors and special guests such as local seed savers and green enthusiasts, hard working midwives, academics, activists and eager Bulgarian audiences. For a second year Svetla was a programmer for the International Documentary Competition at SIFF, which saw an increase in interest from Sofia audiences and the highest attendance numbers ever. Director Tatiana Huezo snatched the Best Documentary Award for her masterful film TEMPESTAD, while special mention went to the Bulgarian debut VILLAGE PEOPLE.

Svetla is now in Copenhagen for the renewed and reinvigorated re-launch of Scandinavia’s largest doc fest CPH:DOX (which now takes place in March) to scout films for our regular program as well as our brand new impact distribution arm, CP Distribution. Our Director of Programming Ezra Winton will be heading to the Organizing Equality Conference in London, Ontario later in the month to present on CP. Both Svetla and Ezra will be attending Toronto’s Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival in the end of April and look forward to meeting doc makers and lovers there as well.

Right after Hot Docs, Svetla will head out to NYC to reunite with friends and fellow rad doc programmers at the second Radical Film Network Conference, and later in August we'll be at the Visible Evidence conference in Buenos Aires to present Canadian works. See you in the aisles!
