Chacun de ces titres situe la politique environnementale dans un cadre li\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;histoire des colons. S&rsquo;\u00e9chelonnant sur les 15 ann\u00e9es qu&rsquo;a dur\u00e9 cette lutte principalement matriarcale, le film nous pr\u00e9sente des a\u00een\u00e9s tr\u00e8s d\u00e9termin\u00e9s qui pansent les plaies de la colonisation et s&rsquo;opposent fermement aux autorit\u00e9s polici\u00e8res, au gouvernement et \u00e0 certaines des plus grandes multinationales de la plan\u00e8te. Mais nos pratiques agricoles conventionnelles \u00e9puisent les ressources naturelles de la terre plus rapidement que nous ne les reconstituons. Comment allons-nous nourrir le monde sans d\u00e9truire la plan\u00e8te sur laquelle nous vivons ? Island Earth donne vie \u00e0 cette question en nous emmenant \u00e0 Hawa\u00ef, le \u00ab point z\u00e9ro \u00bb o\u00f9 toutes ces questions se heurtent avec acuit\u00e9. Il y a moins de deux si\u00e8cles, les Hawa\u00efens de souche nourrissaient leur nombreuse population gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 certaines des pratiques agricoles les plus durables jamais document\u00e9es. Pourtant, aujourd&rsquo;hui, Hawa\u00ef importe 80 \u00e0 90 % de son approvisionnement alimentaire d&rsquo;autres r\u00e9gions du monde, en raison d&rsquo;un r\u00e9seau complexe de politiques publiques et d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eats priv\u00e9s. En l&rsquo;espace de deux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, les Hawa\u00efens sont devenus des canaris dans la mine de charbon pour les probl\u00e8mes alimentaires qui affectent la plan\u00e8te enti\u00e8re. Ce film saisit le moment o\u00f9 deux voies distinctes se dessinent simultan\u00e9ment : l&rsquo;une qui s&rsquo;appuie sur le pass\u00e9 au nom du progr\u00e8s, et l&rsquo;autre qui rejette le pass\u00e9 au nom du progr\u00e8s. Nous aurons le choix entre deux voies. L&rsquo;une est br\u00fbl\u00e9e, et l&rsquo;autre est verte. Pour Winona LaDuke (qui signifie \u00ab\u00a0premi\u00e8re fille\u00a0\u00bb en ojibw\u00e9), \u00e9conomiste, \u00e9crivain, agronome et politicienne autochtone redoutable, ce serpent noir prend la forme de trains et d&rsquo;ol\u00e9oducs.<\/p>\n\n<p>Lorsque Winona apprend que la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne Enbridge pr\u00e9voit de faire passer un nouvel ol\u00e9oduc \u00e0 travers les terres du trait\u00e9 de 1855 de la nation White Earth, dans le Minnesota, elle se lance dans l&rsquo;action avec sa communaut\u00e9 pour sauver les lacs sacr\u00e9s de riz sauvage et les sources durables de nourriture, et pour pr\u00e9server les modes de vie traditionnels.<\/p>\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir pris la d\u00e9cision de lutter contre Enbridge, Winona r\u00eave qu&rsquo;elle chevauche son cheval \u00e0 contre-courant du p\u00e9trole. En lan\u00e7ant une randonn\u00e9e spirituelle annuelle \u00e0 cheval le long du trac\u00e9 propos\u00e9 de l&rsquo;ol\u00e9oduc, en prenant la parole lors de r\u00e9unions communautaires et d&rsquo;audiences r\u00e9glementaires, Winona t\u00e9moigne que le trac\u00e9 de l&rsquo;ol\u00e9oduc suit le cours d&rsquo;un traumatisme historique et contemporain. La nation White Earth demande \u00e0 participer au processus d&rsquo;autorisation de l&rsquo;ol\u00e9oduc, affirmant ses droits issus de trait\u00e9s \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger ses ressources naturelles.<\/p>\n\n<p>Le voyage de Winona l&#8217;emm\u00e8ne avec son fils dans le Michigan, \u00ab sous le vent \u00bb de la raffinerie de p\u00e9trole de sables bitumineux de Marathon Petroleum, o\u00f9 les activistes r\u00e9v\u00e8lent les impacts sur la sant\u00e9 de la vie \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 d&rsquo;une zone connue sous le nom de \u00ab zone de sacrifice \u00bb.
