about cinema politica Octopus Books

Since 1969, Octopus Books has been leaving an indelible mark on the Ottawa community. Located at 116 Third Avenue (The Glebe), Octopus is a unique space connecting students and community members to the important thinkers and ideas of our time. In its 40+ year history, the store has hosted literally hundreds of book launches and speaking events. The store has been graced by a multitude of politically active and dedicated volunteers and employees over the years, and this same spirit still guides the store in all of its endeavours. Moving forward, Octopus has opened a second location at 251 Bank Street (Under One Roof). With an ample and accommodating space, Octopus has begun to organize a series of events. In our effort to create diverse programming, Octopus Cinema Politica will begin screening political documentaries on a monthly basis in November. We will be partnering with a number of different progressive organizations to complement the films with lectures, panel discussions, interviews, and debates. Our ultimate goal is to connect the Ottawa community with local organizations and social movements that are doing great work. Please stay tuned for a full schedule and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
