about cinema politica Toronto Danforth

Welcome to Cinema Politica Danforth -- a project of the Toronto Danforth NDP Riding Association -- to provoke discussion about issues of social and environmental justice.  We select films that are both entertaining and politically engaged, films that reflect the diversity of our riding.

Our aim is to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere where people from all backgrounds can come to share, learn, discuss and, if so inclined, organize or take action on the issue.

Our screenings are normally on the first Friday of every month.  Screenings are usually held at The Centre of Gravity, 1300 Gerrard Street (one block east of Greenwood) -- formerly a cinema, it now functions as a school for circus arts.

Each screening is followed by a discussion with the film makers or other speakers familiar with the issue. We try to have materials available that offer further information and avenues for action on the issue.

The films are free, but donations are encouraged to cover screening costs. Any remaining funds will be contributed to the struggle for social change.

Come out, bring your friends, and let Cinema Politica inspire the activist in you!
