Cinema Politica Kingston is dedicated to using the art of documentary film to inform, inspire, and engage audiences towards positive social change. It showcases national and international documentary films concerned with political, economic, social, and environmental issues. Beyond cinema, the festival has also organized panel discussions and workshops with participant filmmakers, as well as academics and activists.
In 2005 Cinema Politica Kingston raised over $1000 for Amnesty International Canada and introduced packed audiences to many current and important international issues. Furthermore, by extending the project beyond the confines of academia, and branching out into the local community, through a reputed theatre, the Screening Room, Cinema Politica reaches new audiences with its inspiring message. The intense three-day format proposes a rare mix of independent and highly-acclaimed documentary films.
