Tourné sur une période de dix ans, MODIFÉ suit la lutte communautaire pour l’étiquetage des aliments génétiquement modifiés, exposant les relations étroites entre les gouvernements et l’industrie biotechnologique. Le film est ancré dans l’histoire émouvante de la relation entre la réalisatrice Aube Giroux, originaire de Nouvelle-Écosse, et sa mère – une jardinière prolifique, une conservatrice de semences et une activiste de l’alimentation qui luttait contre le cancer pendant la production du film.

Entremêlant le personnel et le politique, MODIFIÉ utilise des archives de vidéos personnelles et des vignettes ludiques de cuisine et d’agriculture tirées de l’émission de cuisine primée de PBS des Giroux, dans une célébration appétissante de la nourriture locale. Ce voyage d’investigation mère-fille démonte habilement le mythe selon lequel les organismes génétiquement modifiés (OGM) sont nécessaires pour nourrir le monde, et plaide en faveur d’un système alimentaire plus transparent et durable.

Aube Giroux

Aube Giroux is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, organic gardener, and food blogger who works on food, agriculture, and sustainability issues. She previously directed two documentaries for the National Film Board of Canada and several independent productions. Her work has been shown on CBC and at international film festivals. Aube is the creator of Kitchen Vignettes, an acclaimed farm-to-table food blog and online cooking show on PBS. The show received the 2012 Saveur Magazine Best Food Blog Award and is a two-time James Beard Award nominee. Aube holds an MFA in Film Production from York University. Modified is her first feature-length documentary.
