Née à Montréal de parents haïtiens, Mylène Augustin a toujours eu un intérêt marqué pour la narration orale, une forme d’expression traditionnelle profondément enracinée dans les cultures caribéennes et africaines. Parlant couramment quatre langues, elle a aussi une passion pour les études linguistiques. En 2001, Mylène a gradué du programme de Littérature et société espagnole de l’université Concordia et, en 2005, elle a complété un diplôme d’études supérieures en Marketing à l’université McGill. Après avoir travaillé pendant plusieurs années en tant que rédactrice francophone et éditrice de contenu web, elle s’inscrit dans un programme intensif de 10 mois en médias interactifs à l’Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS) en 2013. Mylène a d’abord été exposée à la production de films documentaires à l’Office national du film du Canada grâce à un stage de trois mois qu’elle a complété en 2014 dans le Programme anglophone du Studio du Québec et de l’Atlantique. Depuis ce temps, elle a collaboré avec l’ONF en tant que productrice associée sur GUN RUNNERS, un long métrage écrit et réalisé par Anjali Nayar ayant été présenté en primeur au Festival HotDocs en mai 2016 et ayant été sélectionné parmi le top 20 des favoris du public. Mylène était aussi productrice associée sur SHAMAN, un premier court métrage d’animation créé par le réalisateur Inuk Echo Henoche, en plus d’avoir assisté la réalisatrice vétérane Alanis Obomsawin sur ses deux derniers films, WE CAN’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE et OUR PEOPLE WILL BE HEALED.

CAMFRANGLAIS, un documentaire futuriste écrit en collaboration avec Feven Ghebremariam marquera les débuts de Mylène en tant que réalisatrice.

Born in Saudi Arabia to Eritrean parents, Feven Ghebremariam immigrated to Montreal in 1988. Her interest in media and the arts led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at the University of Windsor. She gained first-hand film experience in a documentary class where she co-directed Dry Your Eyes Rwanda, a film focusing on the resilience of Rwandan genocide survivors living in the small city of Windsor, Ontario. This memorable experience inspires Feven until this day to provide a platform for immigrant voices.
In 2012, she directed Coming Home to Boon, a Super 8mm documentary portrait which premiered at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in 2013. In the same year, Feven enrolled in a six-month intensive program in documentary directing at Institut National de l’Image et du Son (INIS). This led her to direct The Other Side of Her Path, a short film featuring a young Moroccan student and her venture into the liberating world of improvised music.
In 2014, Feven co-directed Jeunes ailleurs, vieilles ici, an academic documentary commissioned by UQÀM’s Research Chair on Aging and Diversity. Today, Feven is co-writing and co-directing a futuristic documentary entitled Camfranglais with Mylène Augustin.
