about cinema politica Sydney

Cinema Politica Sydney is a community of activists, students, and most of all film-lovers. Our screenings are a space to facilitate discussions and strengthen connections between different community organisations. We believe that activism and art are strengthened through working together: in particular, the medium of documentary film holds immense power for broadcasting grassroots struggles to the wider community. We want to harness this power to foster solidarity and engagement between social justice organisations, artists, filmmakers and many other groups in the wonderfully diverse Sydney community.
Our inaugural program of films focuses on efforts to decolonise and counter patriarchal violence in Australia and around the globe. We screen recent works by local Indigenous filmmakers, as well as some of the most innovative and powerful documentaries from around the world, always striving to link the films and discussions to local social justice actions. We are 100% funded by donations from generous members of the public, and our organising collective runs on the passion of our volunteers.
