First Peoples First Screens at the Cinema / Activism / Education Conference

Still from A RED GIRL'S REASONING

Cinema Politica Groningen is proud to participate in the University of Groningen’s Cinema / Activism / Education conference by screening a selection of short films from the First Peoples First Screens sidebar programs. As with all of our screenings, this event is open to everyone who would like to attend, whether you are part of the formal conference or not!

First Peoples First Screens is a large collection of politically inspired films by indigenous filmmakers from across Canada, including documentaries, fiction, music videos, animated short films, and more. After the films, Cinema Politica’s co-founder and Director of Programming Ezra Winton joins Dan Leberg for a conversation about indigenous filmmaking and Cinema Politica’s mandate of using film screenings to not only teach but to inspire positive cultural change.

Ezra Winton is the co-founder and current Director of Programming for the Cinema Politica Network. He is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Bulgaria. He has written extensively about documentary cinema, activist media, film festivals, and film curatorial practices.
