Mombasa is a coastal city in Kenya with a rich history, yet at the same time, a fascinating and commercial cosmopolitan.

Swahilipot Hub is a technology, art and innovation hub based in Mombasa aiming at providing appropriate environment for the youth to build sustainable solutions around the challenges in the community. Our mission is to empower the community through creative innovation and technology.

It is our objective with Cinema Politica to offer a free space for film and conversation that bridges the gap between theory, practice, and representation. Cinema Politica Mombasa was hence formed to meet this objective.

The films we screen span larger issues of social justice, peace, political theory, environmentalism, technology, innovative art pieces, and so on. In an attempt to supplement and localize the messages presented in the films, we invite relevant individuals and organizations to lead discussions at our events. We believe that this local event provides a space for the transformative power of film to meet with the voices of our community, inspiring not only ideas but action.

Screenings are held bi-monthly at the Swahilipot Hub or the nearby Amphitheatre overlooking the ocean — specific dates and times are posted closer to the event dates. Donations are gratefully accepted to help cover our printing, postage, and other costs.

Since its inception on July 2017 we have managed to screen three documentaries: The Art of Resistance, United States of Africa and 500 Years Later.

The project has had its ups and downs, like most projects. But we got to say that mostly has been positive in its ups. Most especially we are very excited that we are able to contribute to a society that is growing with an interest to create a change, worried about what is happening now and what will come if we continue to do things as usual. The downs have majorly been on acquiring a good quality projector and sound system to enable us screen the documentaries better without any glitches.
