WE ARE GUARDIANS Still

Featuring
Edivan dos Santos Guajajara & Chelsea Greene, Rob Grobman  ·  2023  ·  1h22m
A dramatic and energetic journey into the daring struggle of Indigenous land-defenders in the Brazilian Amazon that connects ecological balance with environmental activism.

The film is a rich, intimate journey meeting the many people who are living an intricate daily balance in the Amazon basin, one of the world’s most disrupted and threatened regions. Through intimate, character focused storytelling, the film reveals the many intertwined social and economic issues driving this complicated landscape. This is a powerful film that explores the role of violence in the Indigenous defense of Amazonian rainforests under threat from global neoliberal capitalism, while also depicting the economic logics that drive illegal loggers to engage in poaching these vital forests.

We will have Carlee Kawinehta Loft from the Kanhnawà:ke Environmental Protection Office join us for a post-screening discussion to link some of what we are seeing in the film to the local work being done to defend the land.
